Wilson, Bamierman and Sharp at half-bacxi secured and pissed to Holmes, who took the ball to within shooting distance of the Rangers' goal. , Then interesting t>lay was seen, Barron and Robin endeavouring to beat the Wanganui forwards. I but Bannerman beat them, and Gillispn agam obtained possession, himself passing all the backs, was able to add still another score. Wanganui 3, Rangers 0. The ground was very slippery, and the Wanganui forwards were out ; of their element a bit, but soon proved that combination is essential. for success. Again and again they returned to the attack, and but for the very slippery nature of-the ground in front of the goal many goals would have been scored. One or two corners were conceded, but no score resulted therefrom. The Wanganui forwards were not to be denied, and Gillison was able to add one more goal. Wanganui 4, Rangers Q. From the kick off the Rangers strove to make the best of their opportunity, j and did even carry the ball into the Wanganui territory, but Oliver with a long shot sent the ball to Puckridge, who passed to Gillison. Kench (Rangers) in defending handled the ball, and a free kick was given, to Wanganui. Black took the kick, and the ball narrowly missed the posts. From the goal kick, the Rangers secured, but McKenzie handed the ball in his eagerness, and a free kick was given Wanganui. Black took the kick and sent the ball through the posts, beating the goalkeeper. Wanganui 5, Rangers 0. On change of ends, it was expected that Wanganui would show up to better advantage. The Rangers kicked off. and made a great effort to pass the Wanganui halves, but without success. Bannerman sent tho Ball to Spilman, who centred to Gillison. The latter on getting within shooting distance shot the ball through the goal Wanganui 6, Rangers 0. From the kick off Knive- , ton and Pennington racsd away and Pennmgton made a frantic shot at goal which, however, went wide. This was the only time Wanganuis' line was crossed. From the goal kick Holmes secured and passed to Dunkley, who in turn passed to Gillison, and then the ball was again passed to Puckridge. The latter player sent in a shot which the goalkeeper just managed to save. Immediately after Holmes gained possession, and sent in a shot which went through. Wanganui 7, Rangers 0. Except at the time of the kick off Wanganui forwards were constantly harassing the Rangers backs, and six other goals were scored, whilst the custodian was called upon to save a great many times. Oliver (1) Holmes' (1), and Gillison (4), adding the scores. The Wanganui forwards kept well together; arid played to their centre forward, which play proved successful. No small feature? of the forward work was the : passing to his colleagues of -Dunkley, a young but promising player. Together with Holmes, he broke through't the Rangers' defence time and. again.
