■Tho • ordinary monthly meeting of the Wanganui East;; Borough Council was held last'evening. PRESENT.—<Jrs. Benefield (in the chair), Christie, Hollowayy McCaul, Duigan, Allan, O'LeaiT;, and Burton. ' MINUTES.—The ;minutes of tho last msoting were read and confirmed.; FORKMAN.fS REPORT.—The foreman'« report was read and-adopted. ■ IMPROyE>IENT.—It was'n-esolved that. the. foreman l>o instmct-ed to take tho .necessary steps to free that portion of tho Duncan, estate'which is now lying under water. ■■-•
CATTLE STOPS.—It was resolved ta
ask th© Railway Department to remove > tho cattle stops at the corner of Maketu Street.' ■ ■■ . ■ ■ .. ■ CULVERT.—It was resolved that the matter of repairing culverts-in the Mount View Road be loft in the hands of the .chairman of the Works Committee, with' power to act. v GORSE.—Resolved to.'send notices to residents who have gorse growing on their properties abutting the road to , take immediate steps to remove this noxious weed. FlNANCE.—Accounts amounting to £90 13s 4d were passed for payment. _ ' RANGER,—Resolved to draw the ranger's attention to tho stock which strays on the road after sunset. GAS.—A letter was received' froni the , "Wangamii Borough Council, quoting an ■estimate for supplying the borough with gas.—Referred-to the Gas .Committee. LOAN PROPOSALS,—A meeting of householders to discuss the loan proposals will be held in ihe> Wanganui East Schoolroom oh Thursday evenineat 8 o'clock. ■
BEAUTIFYING.—Ch Behefield informed the meeting that he intended presenting the -borough some trees and shrubs, to be planted where the Council sco fit. Mr Benofield was thanked for ms generous donation, and it was resolved to plant the trees on a rese ye to be decided later.
Tho meeting then adjourned for 14 ■days, when, a special meeting will be called for considering the question of constructing; another traffic bridge across the Wanganui River.
