WELLINGTON, April G, Replying to residents at the northern end of the Main Trunk Line, the Public Works Department has decided to run the usual train and coach service during the Easter holidays. The experience of tho manager of tin Petone/Wooll-en Mills bears out the statements sent from various 'parts of the Dominion as to the shortage of girl labour. He states that there is ia great dearth, of girls, and as a consequence ten looms' in his company's mill are/ standing idle. Nearly every department, jn fact, is in wiant of girls and boys. In many eases the company is employing married Avomen at 35s a week to fill the vacancies.
GI'SBORNE, April 6. A meeting of the Borough Council discussed' with the engineer the position of the Avaterworks pipe line, winch Avaa na-inagecl by the recent flood. It'Avas reported that tlie damage Avas not nearly so extensive as at first reported. The Council passed a resolution calling on the contractors to repair th©. damage and complete the contract Avith as little delay as possible. !
