TREATMENT OF HABITUAL INEBRIATES.

(Per Press Association). ' AUCKLAND, March 12. At last night's meeting of the Auckland branch of the Liberal and Labour Federation the following resolution movedby the President (fir. P. J. Nerheny), Avas carried:—" That this meeting .disapproves of the Government's action in committing habitual inebriates to Bell's Island, when the cost of their maintenance is borne by the taxpayer. This meeting is of opinion that it would be much better if the Government pursued the policy of utilising xhe labour of habitual inebriates, on say a State farm or a market garden, as suggested by the Premier, paying such persons a fair and reasonable wage for work done, the balance—after reason-' able provision had been made for maintenance—to go to those, depending on them for support.
