PALMERSTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

,*Bs. THE CURATOR'S SQUABBLE. (Per Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., March 10. . The. Palmerston Borough Council again met this evening to discuss the matter of Curator Smith's resignation as Curator of the Reserves. Cr. Nash once more put his amendment to refer the matter to the Reserves Committee, and the Mayor again declined to take either the. amendment or the original resolution to refuse to accept tlie resignation. A "long and heated discussion ensued, during wliich Cr. Nash stated his intention of informing the Curator that his resignation was not accepted; that he was to continue to hold the position. A letter published by Mr. Smith in the Manawatu " Times" was read by the Mayor, who denied all the statements therein. He said that he would like to know whether Mr. Smith was an employee or the governor of the Council, and that it seemed strange to him that so much Press copy should ' c made over a common cabbage gardener. Councillors objected to the ' Mayor thus referring to a responsible borough employee, and he withdrew the remark. The meeting closed with neither resolution or amendment being put, and it is tacitly understood that Cr. Nash svill act in accordance with his words, and instruct the Curator to continue to occupy tho position until the Council either accepts or declines his resignation.
