PERSONAL.

Mi-. Maughan Barnett was to have left Wellington for Auckland on Saturday last, to open the neHy organ at St. Benedict's Church. ED& is also to open the new organ at the Presbyterian Church, Palmerston North, in a fortnight's time. Mr. W. F. Toy, who for the past fifteen years has been connected with the literary and sub-editorial staffs of tho "New Zealand Herald," has left Auckland to reside in Waahi.

Mr. W. T. Rowater, of Feilding, has been appointed delegate of the New Zealand Westeyan Conference to the general Australian Conference to meet in Sydney next month. Mr. H. J. Day, stationmaster at Haiwera, has been transferred to Cisborne. Us will be succeeded by Mr. G. Falls, now chief clerk at Palmerston North.

Mr. W. H. Eyes, whose death occurred in Wellington on Friday morning, was the fifth Superintendent of the Marlborough Province. He defeated Sir Frederick Weld, afterwards Premier, for the Wiairau seat in the General Assembly in 1860. He continued to represent the Wairau until 1870, when he resigned in order to take the positions of Provincial Secretary and Commissioner of Crown Lands. First and last Mr. Eyes held 12 public positions, ranging in importance from M.H.R. to Sheriff. He came to theWairiau in the "fifties," and became the owner of a sheep farm near Blenheim. He was credited with great executive and financial ability, which faculties were brought to bsar in retrenchment during his period of Stiperintendency in 1865. His married daughter, Mrs. Duckworth, resides at Blenheim, also flwo unmarried daughters. A married son is iat the Rai Val(ley, Marlborough, and another is in the Civil Service down in the South.

Mr. W. C. Cuff has been appointed secretary of Hawena Gas Company, in lieu of Mr. H. S. Elliott, who takes up the duties of town clerk of Haw©; a shortly.
