MAYOR OF HOKITIKA (MAKES SERIOUS CHARGES. AGAINST ANOTHER COUNCILLOR. Per Press Association. HOKITIKA, Sept. 7. A very heated scene occurred in the Borough Council meeting this evening, the (Mayor, Mr (Michel, accusing Cr. Clarke of having made slanderous statements against him and other councillors, which he forcibly resented. He also charged IMr Clarko with having taken money illegally from another local 'body, and with ibeing the tool of a small political clique. The (Mayor moved a, resolution strongly condemning the action of Cr. Clarke, who attempted to reply, but the Mayor declared the meeting closed.

■Earlier in the evening the Mayor accused ex-Mayor Mandel with having illegally taken away from the Town Clerk's office a number of enrolment forma, causing 48 ratepayers to be disfranchised at the recent borough byeelection.
