The Hon. Alfred. Deakm, in reply to 'Mr Carrutfaers, with reference to sending assistance* to the people of Japan. stated that he was averse to spending ■any part of the funds of the Commonwealth for such a purpose. The wovk' should ibe undertaken privately.
