Varney was appointed Director. Hawera.—Miss O. E. Yostt was granted three weeks' leave of ab~ ' sence. Hunteryille.—-Mr. Iremonger , was. granted eight nfonths' leave of absence,, and Mr. Harre was appointed relieving teacher. Riverton.— Mr. Cameron, the chairman of the Riverton School Committee, , . waited on the Board; and controvert- \ ed Hhe "statements made by Mr. Mayo at last Board' meeting. ' Election.—-It was decided to ascer-' tain the solicitor's opinion as to the* annual election. In the evening, Mr. Fred Pirani presided.

The Secretary for Education pointed: out that a subsidy of £100 would bo-, given towards the instruction of teachers :in practical agriculture.—lt was. decided to ask Mr. Braik to draw up ascheme for approval. Grants were made by the Education; Department as follows: Taihape, £125 £ Rangawahia residence, £290; TTmutot and TTtuwai schools, £131 Bs. 6d. each (Dick's tenders accepted). It was decided to offer John Robertson the option of R. Kelly's HaweraL science scholarship. The proposal to establish cookery classes under Miss Nelson, at Taihape r was approved, and an application forwarded to the Department for subsidy ►. The renewal of the National scholarship to A. H. Anthony, Whakamara r was granted, on the Inspector's certificate. •.....■
It was decided to make another application to t"he Department for a grant for the Hintatangi school. The suggestion of the Feildirig.Cham*ber of Commerce to introduce lessons, in bookkeeping into the primary schoolswas 'referred to Mr. Braik for report. The application of the settlers of Piripiri (Pohangina) for a school was: not entertained, the Inspector- reporting that the Utu'wai school was within? easy reach. '
The offer to sell land at Tarama fora school site at £6 an acre was accepted. • ' • ~... The request of Miss A. H. West to be allowed to attend the. Girls' College during the second year off her scholarship was acceded to. ' The request of the Patea Committee for th© introduction of secondary instruction into the primary school,' was; referred to Mr. Adams to report. Mr. D. Coleman'e application for sanction to a household school at Tataramoa was granted. Miss G. Ashcroft's application fof an? exemption certificate for her school was granted.
The question of ordering maps issued by the Navy League was referred to the? Chief Inspector, with power to orderwhat was required. On Mr. Fraser's motion, it was decided that, single desks should be sup--P»/d to the new1 Foxton school, provided the Building Committee considered it practicable.
