THE PACIFIC CABLE.

United Press Aeeociation. —Copyright,

Received January 29, 10.19 p.m

BRISBANE, January 29

(Mihvard, chief electrician for the Pacific cable, arrived by the Miowera on h-is annual tour of inspection. He says the caflbte is working exceedingly well, and the traffic is satisfactory .as far as it goes. At an early date changes will be ■made regarding the handing in of messages, placing the' Pacific on the same footing as the Extension Company. He considers the cable companies have nothing to fear from wireless telegraphy, as there is a. great deal of uncertainty in the system, which is also much slower, though it will prove useful in isolated places where there is insufficient inducement to lay a cable.
