NELSON, January 29. The Carnival 'has begun with splendid weather. The Fire Brigades' Conference is now eiiting.. The streets are decorated, .and the town is full of visitors,, accommodation 'being very taxed.
The main event at the Carnival to-, day was the races, but there are « num." ! ber of shows tip-night,, and the main portion of the city is illu<minated.
