APPOINTMENT OF SELECTORS! t

' , ~ -~ A letter was received "from the Manftwatu Association stating that as the old association had become defunct, a new one had been formed, and hart taken over the old liabilities. It intended to pay the old subscriptions owing by the old association, and iorwarded a sum of six guineas as payment for the seasons 1892-3, 1903-4, and 1904-5, asking the Council to let the subscription for the current year 6tand in abeyance. • It was decided that the" subscription for 1902-3 should be remitted, and the association's subscriptions shoxud ba considered as paid for the current seaThe secretary of the Buller Cricket Association wrote asking for information as to the course to. be taken to secure the affiliation of the Association with the Council, and it was decided that the information should be sent. A letter was received from Mr. A. A. Aitken, of Melbourne, stating that he had been appointed manager of the team to be sent to New Zealand by the Melbourne Cricket Club. He hoped that the team chosen would suit the Council. Mr. H. D. Carter sent on a-letter from a London firm in reference to the suggestion to insure the gate receipts for two cricket matches against the proposed English team next ssason. The firm asked for certain information and stated that when that was obtained it would endeavour to secure a quotation for insurance. It was agreed that the information asked fcr should be given. -The Chairman stated that the Council had to appoint a selector or selectors to choose the team to represent New Zealand against the Melbourne team. Mr. Fowke said that he had had experience both as sole selector and as al member of a Selection Committee, and he believed that the committee was always better able than the sole selector to decide fine points. He moved that a Selection Cpmmittea of three should be appointed. The motion was seconded by Mr. Herman and carried. Messrs F. J. OMson (Auckland), J\ Wheatley (Canterbury), J. Baker (Otago), O. tR-ichardson (Wellington), J. N. Fowke (Canterbury), and G. G. ■■Austin (Otago) <were nominated as selectors, and a ballot resulted in the elec-

tion of Messrs Baker, ißienardion, and Wheatley. The committee appointed to supervise tihe tour of the Mel-bourn.© team was authorised to fill any vacancy that imight occur in the Selection Committee. Messrs Oaygill, Young, Ridley, Thomson, and Raphael wene appointed to revise the rules of the Council and report to the annual meeting.
