THE HAWERA BAND CONTEST.
THE CHAMPIONS' RETURN
Although no definite information was obtainable as to which train the Garrison Band would return from Hawera | by, a large and enthusiastic crowd of ; udinirers gathered at the railway station to meet the mid-day express on Saturday, and when the uniforms of the bandsmen appeared cheers and congratulations were showered upon them. When the first greetings were over, hi 6 Worship the Mayor made a few remarks from a cab. Mr. Bignell said that the people of Wanganui took it for granted that the Band would come home again as champions, and this, together with the uncertainty as to the hour of their return, accounted for there not being a much greater number of people to welcome the members. No doubt the latter would take the will for the deed, as they must know that they had the; best wishes of 'everyone in Wanganui. . His Worship then called for three chears for the band, which were given most. enthusiastically, as were also cheers for Con- \ ductor Criehton and Bandmaster Buck- | ley. Headed by the City Band, who kindly turned cut in force, tho band then marched along the Quay and up the Avenue to their practice-room.
