He also reported that he had written to the Borough -Council respecting the Borough s liability but that body had decided not *ota£e action pending the Mayor's re"aCCOUNTS.—Accounts amountingt-o £160 Bs. Bd. were passed for payment " PETITION—On the motion or the Chairman, seconded by Cr. Wray, afe wasTesolved that Cra. Lilburn, Somanerville, and the mover be a committee To meet the Rangitikei County Council an connection with a petition of the Itfataroa and Otuarei settlers. PLANS—Resolved, that the clerk -telegraph the Chief Surveyor and ask 3iira to forward the Paratieke-Manga-jcnahu road plans to the Chief Engineer of Roads—Cr. Bamber reported : that the Purua Road Board, of which he was a member, thought .that the JMangawhero Road Board should tribute and that the Purua Road Board would also contribute. POUND.—Resolved, on the motion ot -Or.Wray, seoonded by the Chafrman, -that estimates and specifications for a -new pound at Taylorvilje be prepared -by Mr. J. E. Wilson. PUBLIC LIBRARY.—The question »©f making a grant to the Wanganui JL'ublic Library was* again brought up, .and after discussion it was resolved (Or. .Sommerville dissenting) to contribute £10. DOG TAX.—It was resolved, on the of the Chairman, seconded by ■<3r. Bamber, that Mr. E, R. Morgan he re-appoJated collector of dog tax ana .registrar of dogs within the county. RECOMPENSE—Mr. Alfred Gray -wrote to the Council pointing out that -owing to the Upokongaro ferry wire having been left just above the water 2iis boat had been upset, and he had -suffered considerable loss.—The Chairman said he had taken legal advice, -with the result that he could not recommend the Council to pay anything. It wad resolved that Mr. Gray be rnfformed that while the Council sympathised with him, it cannot admit any " Resolved, that Mr. George "Watson, be employed to work the Upo^ Jkongaro ferry, at a remuneration ot '355. a week, with use of cottage; that he put and keep in order the approach; -that he manage the ferry to the satisfaction of Mr. C. A. Caines; and that ■ the engagement be for a m-m. ot &x months.—lt was also resolved that the Harbour Board be asked to expedite the completion of by-laws in oonnec--tion with the Upokongaro ferry. TELEPHONE.—ResoIved, that the "Purua Road Board be refunded, the amount wrongfully expended for telephone. . , The Council then adjourned.
