NEW ZEALAND LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY COMPANY, LIMITED. The Associated Wool Brokers held the opening series of the "season to-day, when about 1450 bales were catalogued. Our catalogue comprised 422 bales, but owing to the wet and unfavourable weather we have been lately experiencing, some 45 bales were delayed in transit. Wo therefore offered 376 bales and placed 300 of these at full rates under the hammer. There waa a full attendance of buyers, including representatives of Home and American manufacturers, bidding being brisk and spirited, and most of the wool, was bought by the over-seas operators. Aa compared with opening rates of last year, we consider prices higher by id to Id per lb. for medium and fine crossbreds, and Id per lb. for coarse and inferior wools. Our highest prioa was ll^d for 30 bales EGJ wool, bought for America. Our range of prices was:—Superior Crossbred 10£ dto llid, medium 9id to lOd, coarse and inferior 9d to 9£d, locks and pieces 4|d to 7^d. We would take this opportunity pointing out to our clients the desirability of exercising more care in sorting and skirting their clips. One of the buyers with the highest limits on which to operate was unable to buy many lots (otherwise quite suitable)^ owing to the presence of bellies and skits.
