The Avondale Jockey Club's Spring Meeting commenced to-day. The weather and attendance were good. Avondale Cup (one mile and a quarter). —Putty 1, Lycia 2, Akarana 3. Scratched—(Apologue. The winner got none too well away, but was up with the leading division half-a-mile from home, and ultimately won his race in a business-like style by two lengths from Lycia. Time, 2min 17 1-5. Dividends, £2 6s 6d and £1 17s» 6d.

Plunket Handicap (7 furlongs).—Master Delaval 1, Pukokohe 2, Calle Iris 3. Scratched —Paritutu, Waifoato, Mauku, and Cairngorm. Won by a head. Time, lmin 35 2-ssec. Dividends, £6 11s. and £1 14s.
