ADDINGTON MARKETS

There was a moderate entry of stock fct the Addington Yards to-day, and a fair attendance. Store sheep, which were mostly wethers, were in good demand, and the fat sheep market, which ■was not a large one, was firm. A small yarding of fat cattle sold at improved rates, and pigs, except porkers, sold at late rates There was a dull sale for store and dairy cattle, of which there ■tretpe yoor entries Store Sheep.—'There were a number of good lines of two- four, and six-tooth wethers offered in the store pens, these forming the bulk of the entry. There was a strong demand for both wethers and hoggets, and a clearance was effected, an Ashburton buyer being the principal 'purchaser of wethers. The following were the principal sales:—27o wethers at 21s 6d, 62 at 21s, 93 at 20s 9d, 145 at 20s 6d, 264 at 20s. 120 at 19s 9d, 53 at 18s 9d, 152 at 18s, and 57 merinos at 7s lOd, 44 hoggets at 17s lOd, 76 at 17s 9d, 26 at 17s sd, 60 at 16s Bd. 40 at 16s, and 192 culls at 13s 7d.

Fat Sheep.—The yarding of fat sheep was not a very large one, and was made up chiefly of good to prime crossbred and half-bred wethers, with a few lines of crossbred ewes and merino wethers. The market was firm, especially for me-dium-Weight sheep. Only a few lines were bought for, freezing, as there was a much smaller ■proportion of unfinished sheep in than last week. The grazier was wot able to pick up many lots. The range of prices was: —Prime wethers 23s to 27s 4d, extra to 28s 6d, others 21 to 22s 6d, prime ewes 22 to 25s 3d, medium 18s to 21s 9d, others 15s to 17s 6d. Prime 'merino wethers 19s 6d to 21s 4d, medium 17s to 19s, others 14s to 16s 6d.

Fat Cattle.—The entry of fat cattle totalled 135, Which ws below the average. The quality was mostly good and

the market opened at higher rates, but several consignments coming in late steadied the market, though, prices all round were then firmer than last week. A line of seven steers from Messrs W. and C. Pamham, Kaiapoi, made £8 10s to £9 12s 6d, and other steers brought £0 15s to £11 2s 6d, heifers £6 7s 6d to £6 17s 6d, and cows £5 to £7, equal to 22s to 24s 6d for prime and 20s to 21s 6d for medium per lOOlbs. A faio yarding *bf veil calves sold at 7s 6d to £2 10s. Store and Dairy Cattle.—A. small mixed entry of store cattle met with a dull sale, and there was not much demand for Hairy cows, which were mostly medium and inferior sorts. Yearlings fetched 28s, 18-months, 51s to" 555, twoyear heifei-s 51s, three-year' steers 67s 6'd to 82s 6d, three-year heifers 755, dry cows 18s to 65s 7d, dairy cows 88s to 1503

Pigs.—There was a fair entry of pigs, baeoners ~ selling ait last week's rates, while poa-kers irare easier. Heavy ba- T conors sellinig at last week's, ratess, while porkers: were easier. Heavy 'baconersmade 45s to 525, equal ito 3d to 3gd per lb., light 35s to 425, equal to 3^d to 3|d per lb, porkers 20s to 30s, equal to 3|d ifco 4d per lb. There was a rather better enquiry for stoi-es, and they sold as follows: —Laa-ge stores 16s to 20s, medium 12s 6d to 15s, and weaners 5s to 10s.
