PLMERSTON N., September 13 .Manawatu defeated Tananaki to-day by 6to 3. The game, which was played on a dry gi'ound, was willing and exciting from the start to* the finish. The teams -wer** evenJy matclhed. The Manawatu forwards wea1© superior in effective work, and were in better condition, but the visitors hiad the better team of backs taken all round. Burke- scored a clever try for Taranaki, and Johnston crossed twice for Manawiatu. None of th© tries wsrer converted. Rothingham (Taranaki) injured his leg and had to retire.
