The "Standard" states that Marquis Yamagata, during the conference, was twelve days with Baron Oyama. He inspected important positions, and reported unfavourably on the chances of the Japanese outflanking, crushing, and achieving a signal victory. This possibly influenced the Mikado to agreeing to the Portsmouth terms.
