THE WAKATU RIFLE RANGE FATALITY.

At tho inquest on Charles Mills, themarker, who was shot dead at the new:* rifle rango alt Wakatu, when the Mounted Rifles were firing last Saturday, thejury returned their verdict after midnight. . They found that deceased was - accidentally killed, and added a rider* thatr whilst not considering the con— structioai of the shelter pit and cover™ contributed to deceased s deathy in thebr •opinion-the construction was faulty^-, and the range should not be used agahfe until it was provided with better ap- -' plianoes and inspected and passed by *- re&ponsibia military expert. Furtherthat all ranges should be so inspectealbeioro being used, and firing parties^ should havo better means of communicating with the marker than existed at this range. The funeral expenses of Mills will bepaid by tho Wakatu Mounted Rifles, ;A~' movement is also afoot to raise a funcfe. for his widow and orphans.
