Wo havo been asked to remind the General Committee of the above of the" jneeting at tho Council Chambers tW& evening at 8 o'clock. His Worship the. Mayor will preside. The subscription list is being compiled for publication, and intending dorors are requested^ €6 foi ward contributions to the hon. treasurer, Mr. A. G. Bignell. The kdver-r tising committee, wall submit ajreport this evening. Several schemes; which should bo satisfactory have been considered. In this respect the: committee would bo pleased to. have suggestions from the general Bjiblic. The Opera House Committee will, we understand, recommend that, if possible, sub-lessees be found, that is if a manager of xepute i;i prepared to submit a first-class attraction. Otherwiso the week will be filled in with, local and outside attractions. There is no difficulty in the way of making the Opera House payable under any circumstances. Particulars re lighting Cook's Gardens by electricity havo also been secured, and if necessary oi 1 advisable tho grounds can be used at night. From this we expect carnival matters to. boom ,and the tradespeople in their own interests should give willing assistance.
