Mr Joseph Petrie will be a Government candidate for the Grey seat at the coming election. A Melbotrtfhtr cable announces the death of Frank Banna, sporting editor of the "Melbourne Herald." Messrs. Andrew Collins (Wellington) and M. J. Reardon (Taihape) are the candidates for the post of labour organiser for the Wellington Trades and Labour Council.
A pleasurable function took place yesterday afternoon, when the "Chronicle"staff gathered around the "stone" for the purpose of making a presentation to Mr Henry Taylor, night foreman, on the occasion of his approaching marriage. 'Mr1 Gilbert Carson, in a happy speech, spoke of tha high esteem in which Mr Taylor was held by the company and his fellow employees, and wished him prosperity and happiness in ihis married life. He then, on behalf of the staff, presented Mr Taylor with a very handsome marble clock and a volume of " Musings in Maoriland." The proceedings terminated with three hearty cheers for Mr Taylor and the future Mrs Taylor.
