o» (From Our Own Correspondent). _ Some person, in the township has been giving the dogs food which does not agree with them. Seven have died from . poisoning. ; •Mr. P. O'Neill had a narrow escape j while working on a .side cutting on the i Ohura Road. . The whole gave way and ] carried him a distance of 80 feet down ] & steep gorge. It was some time before ] him mates were able to extricate him from the debris. Mr. Reaney, the Government- District Engineer, is here inspecting works. He expressed satisfaction at .the 'way in which the town grants have- been expended. The- Makauku bridge is now almost ~ finished., the decking and appi-oiaohes ) remaining to be done, which, I believe, ■ will take a month to finish. Steps are \ being taken to have a Ministerial opening. A well-contested game of football was played here on Saturday last between Kariori and Raetihi. The visitors were victorious, winning by five to nil. Mr. Hempton held the whistle. The township loan will soon be available for expenditure. It is a pity that the shooting season as 'Concluding so scon ;:.s tihe pigeons are at their best now. If the season were to commence about a month later it would suit thi;, district better.
