WELLINGTON, July 13. Ai its sitting last night the Farmers' Union conference amended the rule relating to subscriptions so as to permit branches to adopt a graduated scale.

The third day's sitting began this ir.orning. It was resolved "That any alteration in the franchise for the election of local bodies be strenuously opposed." There was a lengthy debate on the subject, and the speakers did not mince their words in condemning th<a ' .-unwarrantable demand" of those who sought to enlarge the county franchise.

Th<3 Fanners' Union rejected a North Canterbury remit urging the use of a uniform set of books in the schools of all education districts. It was resolved that the Union views with alarm the attempt by the Trades and Labour Conference to force the Government into providing for compulsory preference to Unionists, and that every legitimate effort be made by the Farmers' Union to counteract this.

The Farmers' Union adopted a resolution that the Government bo again most strongly urged to •erect sterilising wonts in the colony or prohibit the importation of bones or boriedust altogether. The speakers thought that the bones were nojb .sufficient return for the dreaded anthrax. •
