EGG-LAYING.
CHRJSTCHURCH, July 11
Mi*. D. D. Hyde, the Government poultry expert, who visited Lincoln Collego to-day, states that the arrangements for the Egg-laying 'Competition were slightly better than those at Blenheim, the pens at Lincoln being larger. 'There was, if anything, better shelter :at Lincoln, there being practically no ..shelter from tjho north. winds at Blenheim. As far as he could see, there was no.cause for complaint regarding the feeding of the birds at Lincoln, and he thought there was a tendency to give "too much rather than too little food. the pens the birds in which had not as yet laid any eggs, he was of «o.pinion that the birds had been too late hatched, and pointed out that the Langshans at the Bnrnham Government jPoultry Station, who were competing -under similar conditions as. those at Lincoln, had dono tho best of any breed, whilst those at Lincoln had not laid yet. At .the Government station jat Milton, Buff Orpingtons had exceeded the record of Hawke's at Lincoln.
