INSURANCE CLERKS ASK FOR

EXEMPTION

CHRISTCHURCH, July 10. At a meeting of the insurance clerks it was resolved to urge the Government to exempt insurance clerks from the provisions of tho Shops and Offices Act, its the clerks have been and still are perfectly satisfied to work under the -old conditions. If the present Act remains in force, privileges such as payment for sick leave and annual holidays, hitherto greatly enjoyed, will proJbably bo withdrawn. A petition on the lines of the above resolution is to be submitted for signature by employees oi "tho Christchurch insurance companies. In tho event of concerted action with jothei* - centres, the chairman of the *ne%ting (Mr. D. H. Thomson) will be .asked to place the views of the clerks before the Labour Bills Committee.
