ST. PETERSBURG, July 7.-

The Kniaz Potemkin captured and looted the Russian cattle steamed Grand Duke Alexis, off Tfoeodosia. The vessel then requisitioned Theodo&ia for large supplies of provisions and 500 tons of coal within 24 hours, on pain of bombardment.. The authorities supplied the provisions, but declared that there was no coat in the town, and directed all the residents to leave except the troops and police. St. Petersburg directed the refusal of supplies. When the Kniaz Potemkin sent a boat ashore, the infantry fired, killing two of her crew. ;. The mutineer's torpedoer then fired a shell, which passed over the town. Tho mutineers are still off the harbour.

The chief industries are flour-milling, sugai and oil refining, tho manufacture* of tobacco, machinery, leather, soap, chemicals, biscuits, etc. Odessa has a university (1865) with 600 students, a public library (1829) of over 40,000 volumes, tho cathedral (1802-49) of the lArchbishop of Kherson, a very fine opera hours (1887), palatial grain wareJ houses, corn elevators, and the "palais royal," with its gardens and park. Water is brought by aqueduct (27 miles long) from the Dniester. Numerous! coast batteries have been built there.
