There was beautiful weather for the" first day of the Gisborn© Racing Club's .Steeplechase imieeting. The sum of £4166 was put brough the totalisator. Hurdles. —Inspan 1, Rose Plot 2, Vivacity 3. Scratch: Ludo, Miner ye, Mo-a-ehu. Won by four lengths. Time 3 mm 59 3-5 sec. Dividends £1 5s find £1 -3s.
Maiden Scurry.—Lucksall 1, Paremata 2, Melton Hall 3. Ten others started. Dividends. £2 13s and £1 9s 7d.
Flying Handicap.—Ladylike 1, Sar•ella 2, Manawavu 3. Scratched: Motor, ■Casino, Anxiety, Hiiki, Spyshot. Won ■by a length and a half. Time, Imin 2-osec. Dividends, £18 15s and £1 ss. Gisborne Park Steeplechase. —Local Option 1, Jack o' Lantern 2, Sergeant Major 3. Only the three started. It was an exciting finish. Won by half a length. Time, 6min 47sec. Dividend, £2 11s. . n „ . Hack Flat—lteay 1, Casino 2, Bruiser 3 . Scratched: Melton Ball, Paramata, Gold Shot, Te Uku. Won by a head. Time, Imin 35 l-ssec. Dividends, £18 11s and £5 10s. Hack Steeplechase.—Great Scott 1, Tchar. Also started : Morehu and Black Diamond. The former fell. The latter pulled up. Won easily. Time, 4min 12 l-ssec. Dividend, £1 17s. Winter Oats.—Minerv© and Faro dead heat, Inspan third. Also started: Manawaru, Te Uku, Hauite. Exciting finish. Dividends, £2 on Minerve and .£3 2s on Faro.
