PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.

WELLINGTON, July 6. CAPITAL AND LABOUR. According to a return presented to the House of Representatives to-day, there are 3292 employees who are mem-> berg of employers' unions throughout tho colony. In the Auckland province there are twenty unions, having a membership of 554; Wellington 28 with a membership of 566; Canterbury 20, with a membership of 1160; Otago 24, with a membership of 837; Taranaki 3, with a irembership of 89; Marlborough 3, with a membership of 52; Nelson 1, with a membership of 9; and Westland 3, with a membership of 30. The -workers, unions aggregate a membership ot dv,iu. In the Auckland district the 58 unions havo 7542 members; Wellington b4, with 7028 members; Canterbury 63, with 6538 members; Otago ot , wittt 6314 STOCK. Durino the year ending March 31, 1005, 3 Worses, 2939 cattle, and 16 swine wero condemned and slaughtered under tho provisions of the Stock Amendment Act, 1898. A total of £5715 16s. lid. was paid in compensation, £28 on full valuo and £5687 16s. lid. on half th<a market value. The sum received in respect of the disposal of carcases was £904 25., of which £19 6s. was deducted from compensation. PUBLIC SECURITIES.
At the end of the last financial year public securities held by the principal Government Departments was £16,499,----321, of which £3,910,640 was held in London and £12,588,681 in the colony. Tho amount was made up as follows:— Post Office £7,979,657, Government Insurance. £2,941,054. Public Trust £1,----814,013, Advances to Settlers £2,759,----516. Sinking Funds £97,000, Treasury £9015,081.
