Hewia's a-rrested and1 brought before Magistrate McCarthy,, who ordea-ed ■him to be examined by : two jdoctoi1!?, who sent him on board the Ventura, to be returned to Sydney. In Court he seemed rational enough, eixoept for frequent lapses of memoi-y Jand intelligience. He said he' was a fireman recently ajt the Sydney Gasworks, and had a wifo in Sydney. He could not Eay bow ho got on board the ship.. The doctors found him to be a lunatic, and the Oceanic Company, to avoid an obligation of £100, elected to return him to Sydney. Tliis waa done with, ftihio consent of the Magistrate, the ship taking all ■responsibility. Lynch did. not seem at all suicidally inclined. , /; .. .. .

Robert McGeorge Hay, an engine driver at Burnside, died on Saturday from blood poisoning, contracted through an injury to his finger while eriiployed at the Burnside cattle yards. William Hudson died at Cavensliam from, blood poisoning, following on an accident to a finger while engaged cleaning out a boiler at the freezing works at Caversham.
GISBORNE, Marclv 20. A verdict of aocidientally drowned while bathing was returned in regard to the death of Frank Schmuck. Th>e evidi&nco showed the bathera ha<l. goane beyond the breakersand had a difficulty iri getting back. The waves prevented' them being in sight of each other all the time, and Sohmuck was not missed until they returned to dress.. The body was recovered ten hours later.
