It is with l-egret thiat w© record the passing away of another old colonist, in. the person of Mr Joseph Smitß","who died at Upper Waitotara on Sunday, iat the age of 71. The late .Mr Smith arrived in the colony some 35 .years' ago. Over 20 yeai-s ago he took up land on No. 2 Line, after which lie went to Opui, Upokongaro, where he resided for some Bor 'nine yeaors. He then removed to the Uppei-. Waitot'flira, iwhere he remained till the time of his death. He was at one time chairman, of the Mangaiwhero Road Board and chairman of the Wanganui County Council. Three sons—tMisssrs : Andrew, Johnson, and "Walton Smith, and" two diaughters— Mrs A. Georgette and Mrs H. Gowen, are left to mourn- their loss. To them and other sorrowing relatives we extend our condolence.
