SAFE 'ARRIVAL IN PORT

After an exceptionally long and eventful voyage of jsev,en months, Messrs Hatrick .and, Co.'s new barquentine Alexa arrived safely in port from London yesterday. She arrived off the bar on Monday afternoon and anchored until yesterday morning, when the Freezing Company's Mghter towed her in. After the vessel, had ibeen inspected by the Health Officer (Dr. Earle) and a clean,, bill of .health .granted, the Alexa was moored at the wharf. . As. is well known, the ALsxa. experienced terrific, weather during January, and had to put into Adelaide in a disabled condition. After leaving Adelaide she .was baffled for a •fortnight. in Bass Strait by contrary ■winds. Good weather was experienced .across the Tasman Seia, but the Alexa bad the misfortune to run ashore at Cape .Farewell. She was towed- off by the iHimitangi and Defender, and from then till "her arrival in port experienced baffling winds. . . A description of the vessel has already appeared in our columns, but it may not be amiss to again give her dimensions. The Alexa is 'a 'barquentme of 343 tons gross and 285 tons nett, with a capacity of 450 tons on a draugliL of 11 feet. Her ■length is 142 feet, with a 26fb. beam. She has three hatches, and is fitted with" a steam winch and has every facility for the 'handling of cargo. The. crew are housed in a comfortable-deck-house, and the officers' quarters coJisist of >a fine large deck-house aft. The vessel was brought into port looking very*neat and trim. Captain White, who has command of the Alexa, was accompanied during the voyage by Hi-is wife. The vessels in port and the Durietown flagstaff wero dressed with bunting in honour of th© occasion.
