LONDON, November 30. iSir Henry Gaimpbell-Bannermait, in a speech at Manchester, said: "We have nothing better to give the colonies than open ports., and they ought to give us greater faciltiea, like Canada "has done. The Sugar Convention is causing us a ioss of millions in order to benefit the West Indies by a few thousands. This is a foretaste of retaliation and prefer-
ence."

Mr. Forster, speaking at Croydon, said that the Colonial Conference would meet despite Mr. Asquith and others. Every sensible man ought to give his weight to the collective wisdom of the people of Britain, Canada and Australasia, to enaWe the Empire to meet the unfair attacks of trade, and strengthen the solidarity of the Motherland and the colonies. Nineteen Conservative resident members of the Cambridge University Senate have declared a lack of confidence in the Rt. Hon. Sir J. Eldon Gorst, owing to his .action during the past two years. They intend to nominate another Parliamentary candidate. S r John Gorst refuses to resign, and intends to stand for free trade.
