SEVERE GALE AT DARGAVILLE

AUCKLAND, November 29. A tejagram from Dargaville states that yesterday a strong 'north-east gale blew, accompanied by very heavy rain. The creeks in the district are in fresh, and damage to the bridges amd roads is reported. Considerable damage was done at Kaihu, .where portions of the breastwork at TroAvnson's mill were carried away, and stacks of timber were carried, bodily away for some distance. The fences and gardens in the township were destroyed^ and one house was carried bodily a distance of isome yards. The residents of several buildings were compelled to leave their houses ,and tlhe township is strewn wath logs and timber. The Kaihu railway line and several bridges were considerably damaged, and the approaches.>washed away.
