Presentation to Matron of Jubilee Home.

A pleasing function took place at the Jubilee Home, Aramoho, yesterday morning, when a presentation was made to the Matron, Miss Baldwin, on thti eve of her retirement by Tj^signation from the position she has occupied for a pel-ipd ot nine years and nine months. The presentation^ consisted of a silver teapot, cream jug. and .butter knife, and was made by Mr. T-airrarit, the steward, who stated that tlie memento was intended by the staff and inmates as a slight token of their appreciation of Mias Baldwin's services in the position she had so capably filled for an extended pei-iod. Mr. Tarrant also read and-, handed the matron the following address: —

Jubilee Home, Aramoho. November 16, 1903. To Miss Ellen Baldwin. Matron Jubilee Home. Dear Madam, —

We. the undersigned members of the staff and inmates of thisi institution, having heard with deep regrclfc of your intended severance of the connection, which has extended over a period of near- ten years, with this institution, you having plaioeid your resignation in the hands of the Charitable Aid Board, and which resignation has been accepted by that body, cannot allow you to do so without expressing our appreciation of the kindly manner with which you have conducted your duties towards us, maintaining as you have done the) discipline, which is neeesssary, with firmness, but always tempered with kindness and consideration for the circumstances under whicn we have been placed under your ca<re. We Heel that there) are few, if indeed an^ r, /who are capable of occupying a position such as you have done, surrounded, «s # it luis been, with many and grave difficulties, with so much credit to yourself and satisfaction to those confided to your charge. We would aisk you. on this occasion,- to accept, in memory of the good feeling that has existed on our part towards, you, a small memorial, which we ask you to accept, not indeed on account of its intrinsic .worth, which} you are well aware must, in our position, be small, but aa a token of our ftealrtfelfr esteem and gratitude. In wishing you firewell, we trust that wherever your future sphere of life "may be cast, it may be happy, long, and prosperous. —We remain, your obliged and obedient servants.

She stated that she could but return her sincere thanks foif suchl an unexpected tribute to the good feeling which Had in the past existed between them.
