Wanganui School Committee.
The usual monthly meeting of the Wanganui School Oommitteei was held lastevenr ing, when there were present—Rev. T. B. Maclean (chairman), Mesisrs T. B. Williams, W. Austin, J. R. Johns, W. Bruce, and the Revs. R. M. Ryburn and J. Cocker. An a,pology was received from, the Rev. H. R. Dewsbury.
After the reading of the minutes, memos. were received from the Education Board, stating that Miss B. Gage had been appointed pupil teacher at the Girls' School', Miss 0. Cook at the Boys' High School, and Miss A. .McLauchlan at the Wauganui' Infants' School; «"dso thait the Education Department had given permission for the erection of a science room and workshop at the Boys' School instead of at the Technical School; and that tfhe Board had decided that the District High School pupils shall in future be taught at the Boys' School, and that the girls who attended the Technical School last year shall in future bs instructed at the Girls' School; that Miss Finlayson had been aiwointed an additional assistant at the Girls' School, and that the Board had decided that Mr E. Edwards be arroodnted to the vacant osRistantshiip at the Boys' High Sciiool. Resolved that the Committee agree to the appointment. 1 . It was resolved that the Revs1. R. M.
Rvbum and J. Cockeir be a sub-committee to confer with the Building Committee re proposed' alterations at) Boys: 1 School.
. It was resolved to grant exemption .certificates to W. and P. O'Hara for a short time.
The chairman reported tiha the St. John's School grounds had been gravelled, and that some of the playground at the Girls' School was being .covered with asphalt, which when completed would make a good job of the ground before the winter.
Accounts amounting to £17 0s 9d were passed for payment.
The Visiting Committee's report, which was read, gave the numbers at the different; schools as follows—St. John's : Roll 152, present 126; Boys' School : Roll 417. present 382; Infants' School: Roll 236, present 209 ; Girls' School: Roll 334, present 301.
It was reported that at the Seventh Standard class at the Girls' School the following subjects were taught—All branches of English, including that prescribed for the Senior Scholarship; mathematics, algebra, and euclid, with advanced arithmetic; French and Latin (for those who wish), and science, besides the usual school subjects.
It was unanimously resolved to request the Board to get the Girls' School cleaned and painted, both inside and outside.
Several minor matters were ordered to be attended to by the Committee.
