Notwithstanding that attention l..<* been drawn to the necessity of having books, packets, and newspapers weighed in ordev to ascertain tli^ correct amount of postage to affix, we are informed that quite a number of these articles have already been posted insufficiently stamped; the newspaper* are riot only charged double deficiency to addressee, but are not sent forward with 'Frisco mail, therefore do not reach destination ■ for some time • after they ■would do if sufficiently stamped.

Christmas numbers of weeklies may pass at newspaper rates within the colony and to Australian Commonwealth. Niue, Palmeupton. and Penhryn Islands, per Countess of Ranfurl- dose at Auckland on Thursday, December 4. at 11 a.m.
