Notwithstanding that attention l..<* been drawn to the necessity of having books, packets, and newspapers weighed in ordev to ascertain tli^ correct amount of postage to affix, we are informed that quite a number of these articles have already been posted insufficiently stamped; the newspaper* are riot only charged double deficiency to addressee, but are not sent forward with 'Frisco mail, therefore do not reach destination ■ for some time • after they ■would do if sufficiently stamped.

Christmas numbers of weeklies may pass at newspaper rates within the colony and to Australian Commonwealth. Mails for United Kingdom and Continent of Europe, via, Monte Video and Teneriffe, per Wakanui. close at Auckland on Saturday. December 6. Mails for Kara/tonga.. Niue, Palmeupton. and Penhryn Islands, per Countess of Ranfurl- dose at Auckland on Thursday, December 4. at 11 a.m.

Connecting with steamei* Talune at Wellington. Close at noon, late fee 12.10 p.m., guards van 12.33 p.m.
