CHRISTCHURCH, October 28.

Iv accordance with the expressed wish of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, that Associations should discourage the holding of tournaments at Christmas time in view of the championship meeting; the Canterbury Association recently declined to pass the. Ashburtou Club's Christmas programme unless the scratch events were confined to Ashburton resident.

At a meeting of the Association to-day, a letter was received from the Ashburton Club tendering its secession from the Association unless the (programme was passed as forwarded1. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided that it was not desirable to have a hard and fast rule prohibiting Christmas tournaments, and that the whole matter should be refeiTed to the New Zealand Association. In the meantime the Ashburton programme, is not approved.
