Sir J. Ward laid the report of the Transport Commission on the table, and said he would fix a date for its discussion. His impression was, he said, that after members, had read the report the*" would not desire to discuss it at length. The Government would consider what was the best, course tq take in regard to the report and the subject rfenerally
NEW BILLS
The Kauri Gum Industry Act Amendment Bill, and the Land for Settlement Act Amendment Bill (which is designed to facilitate the acquisition by the Government of native lands) were introduced by Governor's message and read a- first time.
THE ESTIMATES
At 3.5 the House went into Committee of Supply for the consideration of the PublicWorks Estimates. The first class taken was that of Public Works (Departmental), total £12,500* which, after a lengthy discussion, was agreed to, as also was the vote for railway ■construction (£743,000), and the vote of £450,000 for additions to open lines wast under discussion when the wires closed for the night-.
