SYDNEY, September 20.
Madame Melba, prior to her departure last night, sent a message to the people of Melbourne. She felt she was' not doing them justice if she appeared while affected with, the excitement of a train journey and the re-union with her father after such a long separation; alsoi that she would not be doing justice to heaself and her reputation. She confidently appeals for the postponement of her first concert till the 27th, iastead of the 24th.

The Mayor andl Mayoress and & representative gathering received Madame Melba; Crowds were in the streets. Madame Melba was enthusiastically welcomed, and received floral offerings.
