WELLINGTON, September 19.

■New"s was received here that about 50 officers and men of the Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth New Zealand Contingents, who obtained their discharge in South Africa with the intention of remaining permanentl|y, have decided to return to New Zealand. Most: of them had taken up land in .a "particular district with the object of forming a New Zealand settlement, but owing to the scarcity of labour and the high cost of living, and disease among stock, they sold out to come back to tins colony.
