Received September 19, 10.15 p.m. SAN FRANCLSCO, Sept. 19. The missionary vessel Southern Cross was wrecked at Tahiti.

SYDNEY, September 19.

The heads of the missionary societies here say that the cable cannot refer to the Melanesian mission steamer 'Southern Crbss. Hei* recent .movements preclude the possibility of her being in the vicinity of Tahiti. They suggest that there may be an American ,or Catholic mission of the

same name.
