The Londboi "Coronation," prior to the Coronation, said: If the King requires the support of a walking-stick at the Coronation, he has a staff whose history befits its appearance on till© occasion. This stick is more than 200 years oi'd, for it was originally a branch of Ijjhe Boscobel oak tree into which Charles 11. climbed to escape Crorauwteir'S imien alter Worces^ ter. It was fashioned into a staff, aaiad preslemted to tlhe merry monarch on the Restoration by a loyal citizen tof Woiv cesiter. When Queen Victoria found the aid of a stick necessary, 'Sibe made use of this, and during her last years used no other. Disliking the round knob of the Stuart period, she had a little Indian idlol, looted! at Seringapatam, mounted as a handle. Her reserve staff had also a history, for it belonged to the Young Pretender, and was bought by her Majesty for £160 at the sale of the Culioden relics in 1897. Both these sticks are now at tibe King's service, descending to him as heirlooms.
