A DISQUIETING STATEMENT.
WELLINGTON, September 18. Considerable excitement was caused tfc Petooe to-day by a boy named Adams, jiged 12 years, being di.«co"tred with, a shattered hand and wounds in other parts of his anatomy, which Le said had been ccu&sd by some unknown person shouting l.im from behind. As the position of th& wounds.in the youngster's body gave colcur tg this'story, a detective was iwnii out to make inquiries. Meanwhile the boy had been brought in to the District Hospital, and after one of his fingers had been amputated he told the surgeon that be had been damaged by a cartridge which exploded while he was pressing it into the ground with his foot.
