THE FLOUR MILLING TRADE.
I AUCKLAND, September 16. In reference to the dispute in the flour milling trade, which has been referred to the Arbitration Court, so far as Auckland is concerned the dispute is only a technical one, employers and employees having mutually signed a letter to the chairman of I the Conciliation Boai yd agreeing to accept I whatever terms as to hours, wages, etc., the Court may award for the southern mills. In the letter they state: "We are willing to abide by the ruling of his Honor Judge Cooper provided Aye are put on exactly the same footing as our 50 or 60 southern competitors are. We wish to bring under your notice that Auckland is the dumping !• ground for southern miEs as weli a$ recent ( large importations of American flour by mail steamers. Auckland being the first port of call for mail steamers, naturally the cost of American flour is less here than at southern ports. Auckland employers are in no way connected with; the southern milling trust or combine, and they are at a disadvantage to ship flour south owing to back freight, as the bulk of their wheat is imported from* the south, whereas with nearly all their southern rivals wheat' is j'Vin -the .vicinity ..of the mills."
