OPIUM SMOKING.

WELLINGTON, September 15. Some of the first prosecutions in the colony under the Opium Prohibition Act of last year -were heard at the Magistrate's Court this morning. Avhen tAro Chinese were each fined 5s for smoking opium. A chai>ge« against; Tung Quay for permitting opium to be smoked on his premises Avas dismissed. The cases were the result of a visit paid to tihe Chinese quarter a few days ago by the police and Customs officers.
