On Saturday next a team -of Wangunui golfers will try conclusions! with the Manawatu Golf Club at Palmerston. We understand thafb the nine-hole course is not much damaged by the late floods, and a capital game should result. Among the Wanganui Golf Qhib players will be Messrs. Harold, Wood1, Saunders, Greig, D'Arcy, Watson,. Francis. It is hoped to take away about- Vi players'. On. the following Saturday, September' 27th, a return match Law and Banks V. the rest of the Club will be played. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 2nd', 3rd, and 4th, a Club tusrnament will be held, with 18-hole stroke and bogey handicaps, and driving, putting, and approaching competitions. The entry for the handicaps will be 2s. each; and fotr the competitions" Is. each. Entries mu&t' be in the hands of the secretary riot later than the previous Tuesday, September 30th. The final for the ohampionship of the Wanganui Golf CJub was played off on Saturday. The putting greens were in their usual capital order, and a pleasure to play on after an experience of southern greens. The contestants were G. W. Palmer, one of the founders of the Chib, and for several years its) captain, and1 A. • Howden, lately champion of the Otago Golf Club. The match was an excellent exposition of the game, and produced! ta good finish. The finishing round ended with Howden 1 up. Scores: Palmer 43, Howden 44. At the 16th, the Lilliput green, Palmer had reversed the sifcate of things, and stood 1 up, with three to play, but a skilful, and somfewhaib lucky approachby Howden from the sand! bunker going to the Pancake, enabled him to win the hole, and as he also won "the next two he secured tlxe championship;, 2up on the 18th g-reen. Scores: Hwwden 87, Palmer 90. Both players are to be congratulated on their playj as the match was one of tho finest feen in Wanganui.
