Pollards Opera Company.
The Pollard Otpjera Company arrive- here on Thursday morning from Hawera. "The Messenger Boy" comes to us fresh from his southern triumphs. The piece is said to be particulaxiy well mounted and richly dressed. The music is pleasant throughout, and several of the songs are irresistably catchy. There is! also much good dancing, including a picturesque pas de troia at the opening of the second' act. There is not a dull scene throughout, and there is not a single portion of the comedy that does not present something striking in song or dance. The honours of the piece, as far as characters are concerned, are divided between Miss Alice Edgar, as Mrs. .Bang, and Rosa (Miss Gertie Campion). Mrs. Bang is a minor character in "The Messenger Boy" as written; as played by Miss Edgar it is the most prominent. Her solo, "It all comes out in the wash," and the introduced item, "Com-me-ci Cottnime-cai," are always demanded by the audience. Miss Connie Butler, as Nora, also calls for special. meniion, her singing being a special feature. Asi Rosa, Miss Gertie Campion! is found/ in one of those lively "maid" parts so eminently suitable to this popular little actress. She alnd Mr. Percy do a smart piece of burlesquing in the first act. The chief male character is tlhe irrepressible Tommy Bang, in which Mr. Percy inibroduces himself with the slong, "'lim the Messenger Boy." He has made numerous hits in the different roles in which his duty placed him, "but his Tommy Bang will rank amongst his best. . Captain Pott, as* played by Mr. H. Quealey, is another character that stands out prominently, and is a clever p'ece of character acting, and his eccentric dancing is a special feature. "Patience," "The Gondoliers," and "The French Maid" require no introduction from us, as most Wanganui playgoers are acquainted with these three excellent works, and their revival will be much appreciated. The booking; of seats is still going along merrily, an,ui a packed house fei assured for "The Messenger Boy" on. Thursday evening.
