Local and General.

The exhibition to be given by the Camera Club opens on Wednesday next. The sale of work to be held oni October 2nd by St. Paul's Young Women's Guild promises to be very successful. A large amount of useful goods has been prepared. The usual weekly practice of "The Messiah" murfa takes place to-night at the Masonic HaiU at 7.45 p.m. We understand the membersl of the Orchestral Club will be present to (perform the accompaniments. It is expected there will be a large attendance. All vocalists will please bring their scores with them. The Rev. Mr. Bull, connexional seerer taiy to the Wesleyan Church, occupied, the pulpit at Trinity Church yesterday, both morning and evening. This evening, in the Wesleyan schoolroom, Mr. BuE will lecture on "Forty Years in New Zealand." Collections will be made for the home omissions. We congratulate Master Edgar Randall on the success he attained ait- the recent Trinity College musical examinations, held in Wanganui. He passed with honouns in the senior divisiotn for organ playing. This is the first time that such a position has. been attained by a local candidate. Mr. Walter limpet* is Master RandlaU'a teacher. A large audience assembled in Queen's Gardens yesterday 'afternoon, when the Garrison Band, under Conductor James Crichton, gave a very enjoyable concert, the various items being rendtered in a manner which appeared to give general satisfaction, the fantasia "Concoirdia.," composed and arranged by Bandmaster Trussell, of Nelson, being partieulairly admired. A collection was taken up, which will be devoted to a fund' to defray the Band's expenses to the Masterton contest. Owing to the funeral of the late Mrs. Neville aaiivjmo- ait the Church of England, the Band delayed their programme for half an hour. The "Outlook" of the 13th instant saye : "We have been favoured with a copy of the report of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Wanganui, which shows a healthy condition of affairs, as the result of vigorous activity in aIL branches of Christian effort.. One ot two of the paragraphs in the statement from the Kirk Sessions are well worth reproducing. Dealing with Sabbath desecration, we have tile following outspoken deliverance: 'In connection with the Ministtem' Association, a respectful remonstrance was addressed! ta the owners of the river steamers and the directors of the Ca*)tlecliff Railway, protesting against the dtevila and injustice of Sunday excursions, leading as they do to inifiringemenb of the ' God-given heritage to all workers of - this Divinelyappointed day of rest.'"The responsibility foir the above will, no doubt, be cheerfully taken by the linotype. ■
