Wanganui County Council
The usual monthly meeting of the above was held yesterday at noom, when there were present—Crs. R. Neilson (chairman), J. E. Wilson, J. W. Baker, J. McGregor, D. G. Poison, D. Mason, E. E. Fletcher, and A. Robinson. " Finance. —A debit balance of £504 was reported. Overhead Wire.'—A letter was read from Mr. G. H. Stubbs, of the Mokau Colliery, giving particulars of the ferry rope at that place, which he stated was lowered ta allow steamers to pass over. Vessels drawing wp to 9 feet 6 inches crossed the rope, and as flar as Mr. Stubbs knew no vessel had ever fouled it, although the tide ran out very strong. The writer added that the Mokau was much deeper than the Wanganui. A model of an overhead ferry, made by Mr. J. E. Harris, was* shown, as also a letter from the same gentleman. It was estimated the alteration to an over-<head wire at Upokongaro would cost about £20. The mutter was left in the hands of the chairman and Cr. Robinson to have the wire erected. Slaughter Licenses. —A letter was read | from the Chief Veterinarian, enclosing a 1 certificate ,of a slaughter-house license to J. Buchanan at Okoia. A license was alsoi granted to Messrs'. Harris Bros*., Raetihi. Transfer.—A transfer of property at Raetihi from Mr. H. Henderson to O. G. Avery was granted. _ Remmissaon of Rates.—Mr. A. W. Pubic, Makotuku, applied for a remission of tihe rates until he got a road to his section. —Resolved to furnish tihe applicant with a copy of the clause dealing with remissions.
Heao Bridge.—Considerable discussion osrose over a letter from Mr. T. Simpson re the re-erection of the Heao Bridge, which he pointed1 out was washed away nearly five years ago.—lt was ultimately decided to pcetjpjone the matter for further information. The Council adjourned! at 1 till 2. Union Line.—On the motion of the chairman, it was resolved that the Council complete the title of the transfer of tihe Union Line running through Mr. A. Higgie's property. I>t was .«tated that Mr. Higgie was willing to pay for the cost, of the old Eastern line and the cost of the transfer. It was also resolved to ask the Kaitoke Roatrd Board to pay its proportion of the cost of survey of the Eastern line. Special Rates.—lt was reported that the Council had sufficient funds in hand to pay the special rates for the current year, "and the clerk was instructed not to collect the rates. Mangamahu Pound.—A letter was read from the Upper Wangaehu Road Board, asking the Council ta erect a, pound at Mangamahu.—lt was decided to reply drawing the Board's attention to the Act, which provided for the local authority erecting a pound or constituting a place a pound.
